AVETMISS and the VET Information Standard

RTOs must collect and report student, training activity and outcome data. ASQA says reporting is moving from AVETMISS to the VET Information Standard, and that the amended Data Provision Requirements took effect on 1 October 2026. What applies to you depends on your reporting arrangements, so check your own position with NCVER or your state or territory authority.

ASQA also says most RTOs will meet the new requirements through a student management system. So your LMS usually shouldn't try to become your reporting system. Our job is to make sure the data passing between your LMS and student management system is complete and consistent.

USI verification

Providers must verify a student’s USI for reporting and for award conferral. A verification uses the USI, name and date of birth. The Organisation Portal handles single checks and bulk checks of up to 500 USIs, and providers can also connect through a student management system.

Does an RTO need a custom LMS?
Usually not. Many RTOs do well with a standard RTO platform or a well-connected LMS and student management system. Custom work makes sense when your delivery model or integrations don't fit what you can buy.
Can an LMS handle AVETMISS reporting?
Most RTOs report through a student management system, not the LMS. Your LMS should pass clean, consistent data to that system. ASQA says reporting is moving to the VET Information Standard, so check which arrangement applies to you.
What is the VET Information Standard?
It is the new standard that ASQA says will replace AVETMISS for the VET Provider Collection, with more timely reporting through technology-enabled pathways. Timing depends on your RTO's reporting arrangements.
Can you add USI checks to our enrolment process?
Yes. We can design enrolment around USI verification, through your student management system or the USI Registry System where appropriate, so problems show up early.
Can you connect our LMS to aXcelerate?
Yes, we can connect an LMS with aXcelerate and other student management systems. We'll confirm what each system's API supports during the assessment.
Is your LMS ASQA-compliant?
No software can make an RTO compliant by itself. We build systems that support your compliance work, and your RTO stays responsible for meeting the Standards.
How much does an RTO LMS cost?
It depends on whether you buy, connect or build. A fixed-price assessment starts from $1,500 and is credited to the build, and our LMS AI Tutor Pack starts from $10,000. You'll get a fixed price before any build work starts.
